Where Should I Point My Antenna?

The answer may seem obvious, but it’s not. First, if you rely on your memory to picture that beautiful world map hanging in your 5th grade classroom, you’re in big trouble. Second, signals don’t always follow the path of shortest distance. Third, sometimes, when working DX, it may actually be better to point your antenna in the opposite direction, called “long path”.

But for practical purposes, our first and best guide is an Azimuthal Map. This example is centered on our area provided by NS6T (at NS6T.net) that you may enlarge and print. To learn more about Azimuthal Maps, the following video explains how they work and how to create custom maps for yourself.
