The State of California hosted two major historic Voice of America (VOA) shortwave radio relay stations located in Dixon and Delano. They were built during World War II to broadcast U.S. programming across the Pacific Rim. Both stations are now completely decommissioned.
On Tuesday, July 21st, the Lodi Amateur Radio Club toured the Dixon, CA facility (near Sacramento). It was built by NBC in 1944. Thirty-five years later (1979) it was placed on caretaker status and finally closed in 1983.
